Born
on April 22, 1941 in Nahalal (Israël), Amir PNUELI is a professor
in computer science at the Weizmann Institute of Science in Rehovot.
After he obtained a B.Sc. degree in Mathmatics at the Technion,
Haïfa on 1962, he is a doctor in Applied Mathematics of the
Weizmann Institute in 1967. His professionnal career lead him to
practise in Israël (Research fellow then senior research fellow
at the Weizmann Institute, associate professor at the Tel Aviv University),
as well as in United States (Standford University on 1967-1968,
IBM - Watson Research Center in 1968, University of Pennsylvania
1976-1978, Harvard University 1982-1983) and in France (a city of
Grenoble Municipal chair at the Université Joseph Fourier
in Grenoble, Institut de Mathématiques Appliquées,
1994-1997).
In 1973, Amir PNUELI, was appointed as a professor at the Tel Aviv
University, in which he found the department of applied mathematics
and is its first chairman.
Besides its own interest for temporal logic into computer science
and its application for the specification and verification of reactive
systems, he also contributed to algorithmic research in system verification
and worked on the semantics and implementation of a visual language
for the specification, modeling and prototyping of reactive systems.
Actually, his research interests involve synthesis of reactive modules
and automatic verification of multi-process systems.
Amir PNUELI has been involved in industrial activities; he co-founded
the company Mini-Systems in 1971 and AdCad company (today i-Logix)
specialized in computed assisted software tools.
Member of several scientific committees or program committees, author
of about a hundred articles, communications or chapters in specialized
books, Amir PNUELI was the 1996 recipient of the Turing award in
computer science.
He was awarded a " Honoris Causa " doctor ate at the Uppsala
University (Sweden) in 1997 and at the Université Joseph
Fourier in Grenoble (France) in 1998.
